Zambia reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in style with two wins and a draw, and at the heart of their progress was captain Christopher Katongo.
Christopher Katongo proved how good he really is, leading Zambia to the African Cup of Nations title in 2012. Katongo captained Zambia, scored three goals during the tournament, and earned MVP (Man of the Competition) honors during the tournament.
The sterling performance of the of Chris Katongo who is also a military officer in the 2012 Afcon has moved the president of the country to elevate his rank.
Zambia army spokesperson Christopher Musonda said in a statement: “The president of the republic of Zambia and commander in chief of the armed forces His Excellence Michael Chilufya Sata, has promoted Zambia national soccer team captain Christopher Katongo to warrant officer class one with immediate effect for displaying exemplary leadership and skill in the team which has contributed to the team’s good performance.”
